Boat Testimonials

Upon reading several articles on Blue Marble and doing a little homework on the product, I decided to give it a try in my twin 200HP off-shore setup. This was a big risk, since my engines were new at the time. I spent many hours on the phone trying to get facts and figures as well as how the other "big boys" were running with the product. Getting to my fish spots, required long runs through low speed zones. The "smoke-n-choke" at low RPM with a twin setup is no fun! I was looking to free up the motors with a better oil. After a few tanks with this blue stuff, what a difference! I no longer take the long way to avoid the "no-wake" zones. My engines run much smoother, with little smoke. I've been running Blue Marble for a year now and my motors are almost broken-in. I've noticed about a 200 RPM climb at WOT as well as an increase in fuel economy. My gas man wants to know if I found a re-fuel ship off-shore somewhere! The only bad news with using Blue Marble, its looks like I'll need to re-prop to gain the full advantage of the "new" performance of my setup. I'll take this bad news any day!

I just wanted to drop a note to you informing you of the success I have enjoyed with your product. But first a little history. I purchased a 1992 model Mercury 135 H.P. Black Max in June of 1998. I employed a Mercury mechanic to check this engine thoroughly and he found the engine to be in good shape. I used the engine without incident for a month or so before having problems. The engine would be very difficult to start, would not idle, and would "bog" down when accelerated. I took the engine back to the mechanic and after $800.00 worth of "repair" and four weeks of down time I got it back. The engine ran well for a few trips then started the symptoms again. I pulled the new plugs and found them to be heavily coated with carbon. After replacing the plugs I enjoyed a few good trips then "same old story". I took the engine to another mechanic who claimed my engine needed "de-carbing" which I agreed to have done. After the "de-carb", the engine ran well for about two months then went down hill again. About this time I was getting very frustrated with my black "anchor" so I started researching the purchase of a new engine. While doing this research I found and read an article in Bassmaster magazine regarding your Blue Marble oil. The article spoke to the very same problems I was having with my engine. If I remember correctly, I visited your web site and spoke to you directly regarding your product. Based on your input I decided to try one gallon of this oil. After all, the price of one gallon of oil is decidedly less than the cost of a new engine. After receipt of the oil, I drained the oil reservoir of Quicksilver, put in the Blue Marble oil and followed the break in instructions. I noticed no difference at first. However, after about one half of the gallon was consumed, I noticed that the engine was starting easier and running more smoothly. At this time I decided to buy a case of your product to continue the experiment. After running approximately six gallons of Blue Marble oil through my Mercury I feel qualified to offer the following observations regarding the performance of my engine. I am now able to quickly "cold start" this engine with no throttle advance. No more starting and having to quickly reduce the RPM level. This is a great benefit to assure engine life. Virtually no oil smoking. The engine smokes very little even with cold starts. No hesitation through all throttle ranges. I have not changed spark plugs in almost two years. The spark plugs are as clean as new with absolutely no carbon coating. I have to be very careful starting this engine when at operating temperature to keep from "grinding" the starter. 5800 RPM was the most I could see on my tach before using this oil. Now I have to be careful not to "redline" at 6000 RPM. The engine seems stronger although I have no way to qualify this observation. Based on the above comments I plan to continue using this oil. My engine, in my opinion, performs as well as any new product I could buy.

In August of 1998, the makers of Blue Marble 2-cycle oil asked me to test their product on my engine on a local lake. I am retired, but I am also an active fisherman who cares about the fishing environment. I want my grandchildren to get as much joy out of this recreation as I have over many years. I was interested in what the Blue Marble people were attempting to accomplish - an environmental oil.
To establish a baseline, I used Mercury's Quicksilver Oil. I used a 1971 Evinrude twin on a boat secured to the pier with the throttle held at 3100 rpm. Temperature readings were taken on the hottest spot on each cylinder. After gathering data on the Quicksilver oil, I switched to a new tank with Blue Marble oil in a 50:1 mix ratio. After a short time, there was a noticeable difference in the way the motor ran. There was an increase in rpm's; the noise level was reduced; and the temperature on the lower cylinder head (the hottest spot) was 12 degrees cooler when compared with the Quicksilver oil on the baseline. The engine smoked for a short period of time and then the smoke disappeared completely. There was no sheen on the water. With Quicksilver, there was a very large sheen that covered the small inlet where I was running the test. I continued this test for a total of 60 hours and the motor seemed to improve even more with a lower noise level. After about the third tank of gasoline, I was then able to start the engine with just one pull - this is a 1971 engine! Also the amount of running time from a gallon of gasoline with Blue Marble at 50:1, when run at the same rpm as with the Quicksilver, ran at least 25% longer. This is a big savings in fuel, and a lot less pollution going into the water. I ran three endurance tests at full throttle for over eight hours. The temperatures were constant and during the total eight hours there was no sheen on the water or smoke from the combustion. I took a sample of the water coming from the exhaust port in a mason jar and let it settle down. There was no hydrocarbons visible, not even a hydrocarbon smell. It seems to me that there must be a complete combustion efficiency happening. Also, I pulled the spark plug after each run and there was no carbon on the plug. This engine would always carbon up very quickly. I looked into the cylinder and again, there was no carbon. The engine was as clean as it was when I bought it in 1971. At the time, I did not know that I was caught up in history making event. It was exciting to be the first person to run this environmentally oil; but even more exciting was that I was able to rejuvenate a 28 year old engine. I am 69 years old and have owned outboard motors since I was 14 years old. I have fished and had so much pleasure on the lakes and streams in our beautiful country. I now own a new 50 hp Johnson which I run using Blue Marble, with amazing results, with at least 300 more rpm at the top end, with about 25% more fuel efficiency. Just knowing that I no longer pollute while enjoying the outdoors, is so satisfying. I'm really proud to write this endorsement. Everybody who runs a boat, should be required to use the Blue Marble oil to help clean up the environment and keep our water cleaner.

Sincerely,
Glen Mancill

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the info that was shared with me concerning Blue Marble Oil. As I explained, I am a member of the Outboard Drag Boat Assn. (ODBA). It was through my racing that I was introduced to Blue Marble Oil. It did not take long for me to realize that this is an excellent product. My opinion is based on actual engine tear downs and performance on the race course. During last year, I ran an entire season on one engine without a single failure, whereas I would normally go through 1 to 2 engines in a season. Now you need to understand that I run in the Pro-modified carb class. This allows us to modify an engine from its factory configuration to a radical one. These modifications include balancing internal components, removing mass from rotating parts, and "freeing" up the engine to turn as many RPM's as possible. Obviously, these engines see very high stresses, and when they stay together for a entire season one can only conclude that the lubrication being used has a drastic impact. I saw many racers in all classes run with the lowest number of engine failures I can remember in my racing career.

My experience with Blue Marble Two Cycle Oil has been astonishing in the 2½ years that I've been using it my 300 ProMax. The most noticeable thing that I've found is that I run spark plugs a lot longer than I used to. With conventional oils I would have to change plugs 3 or 4 times a season due to the heavy oiling that the 300 utilizes. Now with the Blue Marble I can run plugs a full season and more. I have noticed a small increase in rpm maybe 100-150 over the oil I used to use. Another benefit that amazes me is that I can make a long run in the morning when the lake is calm at full throttle for 30-60 minutes and when I shut it down to idle it seems to idle smoother than when I took off. The idle quality is quite a nice benefit. It may take a gallon or two in order to notice the benefits but it will happen. I run my outboard like a ProMax should be run, strong. I have no reservations about using Blue Marble, in fact I've run Klotz, Amsoil, and other synthetics and after the first case of Blue Marble I haven't used anything else. My 4-year-old 300 ProMax hasn't lost a single rpm since I started using Blue Marble. Thanks for a great product.

I am now running your oil in my 2000 9hp Johnson and I have really noticed an improvement. Both of my sons are using the oil in their motors as well. One is a 150hp Evinrude and the other is a 1992 Johnson with a 9hp kicker. All of our boats have a tachometer and we have definitely noticed more RPM's and very improved starting conditions. There is no smoke and the noise is also down significantly. I would highly recommend it. The only complaint I have is that there is no dealer here in western Pa. where we live. We are located half way between Pittsburgh and Erie. I will be ordering more very soon.

Thank You

In 1999 I purchased a new 1998 Evinrude 200h.p. Ocean Pro. I saw your article in one of my fishing magazines and decided I would give your product a try, hoping it would extend the life of my new engine. I do a lot of trolling and usually have to suffer with the smell of exhaust fumes in the cockpit. After only a few minutes or running with Blue Marble Oil, I noticed a definite decrease in exhaust fumes. After several hours of running time, the fumes seemed to disappear, I began to realize my hole shots were much faster, I gained almost 500RPM at top end AND I seemed to be using much less fuel. Blue Marble Oil is an absolutely marvelous product and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to clean up the environment and at the same time gain an amazing amount of performance out of their outboard.
